FinOps Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A hands-on FinOps Engineering role driving cloud cost optimization and financial governance across an AWS and GCP footprint for a Postgres developer platform. The work goes beyond analysis: this engineer finds savings and ships the Terraform, Lambda, or product fix that realizes them, while partnering across Engineering, Finance, and Product. Strong communication is essential, since the role regularly explains savings cases to engineering teams, finance stakeholders, and leadership audiences.
Responsibilities - Find and ship savings across AWS and GCP, covering rightsizing, storage lifecycle policies, data transfer, and spot or auto-scaling, taking ideas from identification through to realized dollar impact. - Build and maintain cost attribution through tagging policies, allocation, and chargeback or showback so engineering teams can see and own their own spend. - Automate cost governance with reporting, anomaly detection, and alerting, written as scripts and infrastructure-as-code rather than manual review. - Bring cost into architecture discussions early so efficiency is designed in rather than retrofitted. - Support Finance on forecasting, budget tracking, and dashboards that both engineering and finance can read.
Requirements - Strong AWS expertise with working GCP knowledge, including pricing models, billing structures, and cost optimization mechanics. - Automation and scripting skills in Python, Terraform or Pulumi, Lambda, or Bash. - Comfort with cost and billing tooling such as AWS Cost Explorer, Cost & Usage Reports, GCP Billing Reports, and BI or dashboarding platforms. - Prior experience in a FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud governance role. - Ability to analyze cost data and present it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Comfort doing unglamorous, high-leverage work that unblocks other teams and collaborating cross-functionally without positional authority.
Nice to have - Experience with a dedicated cloud cost management platform such as CloudZero or Vantage. - Familiarity with Linear and Notion as systems of record for tracking and documenting FinOps work.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote with global hiring and a WeWork membership or co-working allowance. - ESOP equity ownership for every team member. - Tech allowance for home office setup, plus health insurance covered at 100% for employees and 80% for dependents. - Annual company-wide off-site gathering. - Asynchronous, flexible work culture that trusts employees to manage their own time. - Annual professional development allowance for courses, books, conferences, or other learning.
