A digital news organization focused on accountability journalism is hiring a journalist-producer to help create original video reporting and analysis for a slate of morning news programs. The role blends hands-on reporting and story development with end-to-end video production, working closely with hosts, editors, and editorial leadership. It is a fast-paced, early-morning position suited to someone who thrives in breaking news and digital-first storytelling.

Responsibilities

- Pitch original story ideas and develop fresh angles on underreported or emerging issues - Conduct interviews, build sources, and complete research to support original reporting - Write scripts, interview outlines, and segments; book and prep guests - Produce video content from concept through publication, collaborating with hosts, editors, and leadership on editorial direction - Help shape coverage for daily morning programs and experiment with new formats and audience engagement tactics - Travel occasionally for field reporting and partner with editorial, marketing, social, and product teams to promote programs

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in journalism, news production, reporting, or documentary media - Demonstrated ability to originate and report stories independently - Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills with sound news judgment - Experience producing fast-moving news content on tight deadlines - Commitment to factual accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity - Familiarity with YouTube and digital-first video publishing; enthusiasm for early-morning work

- Background producing news, public affairs, or current events programming - Investigative or enterprise reporting experience - Documentary development or short-form documentary work - Video editing skills - Established source networks across politics, policy, business, technology, culture, science, or local communities
