Remote job
Staff Hardware Engineer, Electrical Distribution System / Harness
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Own the electrical distribution system and wiring harness design for autonomous vehicle platforms, carrying the work from system requirements and early architecture through release, vehicle builds, validation, and production support. The role combines detailed electrical engineering with coordination across hardware, software, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
Responsibilities - Define power, grounding, circuit protection, signal, and network architecture for vehicle electrical systems. - Create and release schematics, wiring diagrams, pinouts, harness drawings, bills of materials, and installation instructions using ECAD, MCAD, and product lifecycle tools. - Analyze wire sizing, voltage drop, current capacity, fuses, relays, connectors, terminals, and grounding for low-voltage and applicable high-voltage circuits. - Work with systems, electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and supplier partners to resolve integration issues and produce buildable designs. - Lead design reviews, interface definition, change control, and configuration management as hardware moves from concept toward production. - Plan and carry out harness verification, including continuity, insulation, network, electromagnetic compatibility, environmental, and vehicle-level testing.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, computer or automotive engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus. - At least five years of relevant experience in wiring harnesses, electrical distribution, vehicles, aerospace, robotics, or industrial equipment; eight or more years is preferred for staff-level scope. - Demonstrated experience taking a vehicle or complex-machine harness from requirements through design release, prototype builds, validation, and production support. - Strong knowledge of electrical distribution, circuit protection, wire sizing, grounding, connectors, shielding, splices, routing, retention, and harness packaging. - Experience with electrical schematic and harness design tools such as Capital, CATIA, Siemens NX, Zuken, AutoCAD Electrical, or comparable ECAD/MCAD and lifecycle systems. - Working knowledge of vehicle networks and diagnostics, electromagnetic compatibility, and applicable automotive safety and manufacturing practices.
Nice to have
IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE/AIAG, or Six Sigma credentials; experience with design-for-manufacturing, production planning, failure analysis, and supplier collaboration; or experience establishing engineering processes in a new or rapidly developing environment.
Benefits and work setup
Regular onsite presence is expected at a site in New Stanton, Pennsylvania, with preference for candidates near Pittsburgh. Remote arrangements may be considered individually. Occasional travel to manufacturing, supplier, and partner locations is required.
