Remote Backend Django Engineer – AI & Algorithmic Systems

Role overview Develop backend capabilities for AI- and algorithm-driven products, owning work from data modeling through application logic and reliable services. You’ll work with a distributed team to turn product ideas into technical designs and ship improvements quickly.

Responsibilities - Design and build backend services and REST APIs with Python and Django, using Django REST Framework or a comparable framework as appropriate. - Create and evolve relational schemas, relationships, and domain models in PostgreSQL. - Implement backend logic such as scoring, ranking, routing, and decision rules. - Improve correctness and performance through efficient queries, indexing, caching, and lean API responses. - Translate product needs into technical designs and endpoints, and contribute to shared engineering patterns and delivery practices. - Write maintainable, production-ready code that can be iterated on as the product grows.

Requirements - Strong experience building backend applications with Python and Django. - Solid understanding of SQL and relational data modeling. - Experience designing and implementing REST APIs. - Background implementing non-trivial business logic or algorithms, such as decision flows, scoring, or optimization. - Practical understanding of query performance and caching. - Able to work independently, communicate clearly, and adapt to ambiguity and fast feedback in a remote setting.

Nice to have - Experience with algorithms, optimization, data-heavy systems, or shipping projects in a startup or independent setting. - Production experience with Google Cloud, Redis, or PostgreSQL at scale. - Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or serverless services on Google Cloud.
