About this role
Role overview A distributed, fully remote engineering team is hiring a software engineer to own the data ingestion and infrastructure layer that fuels large-scale AI model training. The mission centers on unlocking reading and learning for tens of millions of users through audio-based products, and this role sits on the data side of the AI team, building petabyte-scale training datasets cheaply and reliably. The work blends infrastructure, engineering, and research in a single tight loop.
Responsibilities - Source new audio datasets creatively and route them through the ingestion pipeline. - Operate and extend cloud infrastructure (GCP, managed with Terraform) that powers the data ingestion stack. - Partner closely with research scientists to push the cost, throughput, and quality frontier so richer data fuels next-generation models at lower cost. - Co-author the dataset roadmap with AI teammates and engineering leadership to support upcoming consumer and enterprise products. - Adapt priorities quickly as new data opportunities and research directions emerge.
Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. - Five or more years of industry software development experience. - Strong proficiency with bash and Python scripting in Linux environments. - Solid grasp of Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code, plus hands-on professional experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP preferred). - Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort juggling multiple workstreams.
Nice to have - Experience building or operating web crawlers and large-scale data processing workflows.
Benefits and work setup - 100% distributed team with no physical office and a strong asynchronous working culture. - Competitive compensation plus bonus and equity; Sweden-based salary range listed as 30,000–115,000 USD per year depending on experience. - Entrepreneurial team culture that encourages initiative, risk-taking, and fast iteration, paired with a hands-off management style. - Mission-driven product used by tens of millions, including work that supports people with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, low vision, concussions, and autism. - Opportunity to operate at the intersection of artificial intelligence and consumer audio, one of the fastest-growing segments in tech.
