Principal Engineer

Role overview Build and guide the development of data connectors that move information from customer systems into data warehouses. The focus is reliable incremental extraction: handling failures, avoiding duplicate loads, preserving source data, and adapting as schemas change. Most delivery is AI-assisted: you specify work, review agent-built changes, and decide what is ready to ship.

Responsibilities - Design connectors and the supporting SDK, coordinator, and deployment controller using Java 21 and Micronaut. - Implement resumable incremental extraction and at-least-once processing that avoids duplicate data. - Preserve source records faithfully in warehouse landing tables and handle changing schemas. - Work within runtime and resource constraints using GraalVM native-image compilation. - Investigate difficult integrations, including inconsistent APIs, pagination, rate limits, and vendor behavior that differs from documentation. - Write specifications and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to colleagues and customer data teams.

Requirements - Strong engineering judgment for building reliable integrations and data movement systems. - Ability to reason about partial failures, retries, incremental cursors, duplicates, and schema evolution. - Experience integrating external APIs and resolving production issues across systems you may not control. - Ability to write clear specifications and explain difficult technical findings to customers. - Practical experience using AI tools to build and analyze software, with sound judgment about their limits.

Benefits and work setup - Remote contract work from anywhere in Europe; the engagement has no guaranteed hours or notice period, and does not restrict other work. - Contractors invoice for their work and handle their own insurance, pension, tax, and paid leave.
