About this role
Role overview Establish and put into practice a finance data governance capability in a complex enterprise environment. Working across Finance and Technology, the consultant will clarify ownership and standards, document important data and its flow through reporting processes, and introduce controls that make finance data more reliable and usable. This is a 12-month contract assignment.
Responsibilities - Assess current governance practices, documentation, ownership, controls, and data management maturity; then design a workable operating model with decision rights, forums, workflows, and escalation paths. - Create practical standards, procedures, templates, approval steps, and issue-management routines for Finance and Technology teams. - Inventory priority data domains, systems, reports, calculations, mappings, and critical data elements; document definitions, owners, approved uses, classifications, refresh cycles, and dependencies. - Map lineage and transformation logic across source systems, integrations, consolidation, reporting, and analytics; record business rules, reconciliations, controls, and quality expectations. - Define data quality checks and issue workflows, and govern master data, hierarchies, and mappings across relevant finance processes. - Lead stakeholder workshops, prepare clear documentation and executive updates, support adoption, and maintain a prioritized delivery backlog.
Requirements - At least eight years of experience in data governance, finance data management, finance transformation, financial systems, data quality, metadata management, or related consulting. - Experience establishing or substantially improving governance or data strategy in a complex enterprise. - Strong knowledge of finance processes such as general ledger, consolidation, planning, forecasting, close, reconciliation, and management reporting. - Ability to document finance definitions, business rules, mappings, hierarchies, lineage, controls, and data quality needs. - Skilled at facilitating decisions across Finance, Accounting, FP&A, engineering, business intelligence, security, and technology stakeholders. - Strong writing and communication skills, including detailed working documentation and concise leadership-level summaries; able to make progress with ambiguity and limited existing structure.
Nice to have - Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA, Snowflake, enterprise reporting tools, or data catalog and governance platforms such as Atlan or Collibra.
