Backend Engineer (APIs & Data)

Role overview This position centers on building backend services that must remain accurate and reliable under heavy load, including payment flows, entitlement systems, reporting pipelines, and integrations with third-party SaaS platforms. The engineer partners closely with full-stack colleagues and external clients to define durable service contracts, model data thoughtfully, and ship changes with safe migration plans. It's a role suited for someone who treats correctness, observability, and operational clarity as first-class concerns rather than afterthoughts.

Responsibilities - Design and implement backend services handling payments, entitlements, reporting, and external SaaS integrations. - Tune SQL queries and schema decisions to support transactional integrity and predictable performance. - Build background processing jobs with appropriate retry, rate-limiting, and structured logging behavior. - Reason carefully about failure modes, ensuring systems degrade safely and surface actionable signals to operators. - Plan and execute database migrations that allow release without downtime or data corruption. - Mentor peers on database fundamentals, debugging stack traces, and shipping migration-safe changes.

Requirements - Demonstrated experience building production backends that handle load-sensitive workloads. - Strong SQL skills, including query tuning and an understanding of transactional guarantees. - Familiarity with background job systems, rate limiting, retries, and structured logging practices. - Ability to define service contracts and data models that hold up over time. - Comfort reading stack traces, diagnosing root causes, and writing code that fails safely. - Experience collaborating with full-stack engineers and client stakeholders on technical decisions.

Nice to have - Prior work integrating with third-party SaaS APIs and managing webhook or event-driven flows. - Background mentoring engineers on database design or operational best practices.
