Job details
About this role
Role overview A backend engineering role focused on building robust microservices that bridge internal and external systems at the intersection of stability and scalability. The position involves owning features from a raw idea through production-ready deployment, with work spanning Node.js services, PostgreSQL data layers, and authentication flows. The setup is remote-first by default, with on-site collaboration in Berlin for larger features and architectural decisions.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain microservices enabling communication between internal and external environments - Take ownership of features from initial idea through production-ready deployment - Contribute to the technical roadmap by proposing scalable solutions and questioning the status quo - Implement and refine authentication and authorization flows using OAuth and Auth0 - Optimize the data layer through deep SQL and PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design and query performance - Apply automated testing practices using jest, mocha, or similar frameworks
Requirements - Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript for production codebases - Deep understanding of PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization - Experience with ORMs and judgment about when they help or get in the way - Commitment to automated testing as a first-class part of shipping - Comfort with Docker, Git, and modern CI/CD pipelines - A portfolio, side project, or demo repository that shows shipped production-ready code
Nice to have - Experience navigating the AWS ecosystem or using monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or Graylog - Track record of mentoring peers or leading technical direction on a project - Computer Science degree or self-taught journey evidenced by a strong portfolio
Benefits and work setup Remote-first day-to-day work with on-site collaboration in Berlin for larger features, architectural decisions, and brainstorming sessions. The culture emphasizes ownership over tickets, low-ego collaboration, direct feedback, and continuous growth through hackathons, conferences, and community involvement. Perks include 30 days of vacation plus December 24 and 31 off, Smart Fridays with a possible four-day week, mobility benefits covering the Germany ticket and JobRad, sports and health offerings, mental health support, and additional corporate benefits.
