About this role
Role overview Build backend services that help independent restaurants compete with large chains and third-party delivery platforms. The Services team is hiring multiple backend engineers at associate, intermediate, and senior levels to ship features and integrations that make partnering shops feel like they have a much larger operation behind them. The role is remote across the UK, with a physical office in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Responsibilities - Design, code, and launch new backend features and services that improve how restaurant partners operate and serve their customers. - Identify asymmetric opportunities where a small technical change delivers outsized value, and ship creative, high-leverage solutions. - Own projects end-to-end from concept through production, working closely with product and design to define solutions and iterate quickly. - Pick the best tool for the job, primarily Python with Flask, but freely using Go, Ruby, or new cloud services when they are the right fit. - Collaborate within a small, agile group of roughly five to eight backend engineers distributed across the US, UK, and Europe. - Apply best practices in coding, testing, monitoring, and DevOps to keep services reliable and performant, including writing tests and tuning logging and alerting.
Requirements - An owner mindset with the ability to take initiative, drive work end-to-end, and move with urgency in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment. - Proven track record of building and shipping production systems, with curiosity for finding asymmetric wins. - Strong backend engineering fundamentals and comfort working across a polyglot stack. - Willingness to challenge the status quo and operate as an unconventional, founder-like thinker. - Ability to thrive in a small, scrappy, mission-focused team that values impact over polish.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within the UK, with an office in Belfast for those nearby. - Access to medical, dental, and vision plans. - Flexible working hours and generous time-off policies. - £200 per year employee wellbeing allowance. - Market-leading maternity and paternity schemes. - Multiple openings across associate, intermediate, and senior levels.
