About this role
Role overview Build internal services and tools that help software teams safely operate databases, queues, caches, streaming systems, and a data lake. The work centers on availability and developer productivity: turning specialist operational tasks into self-service capabilities that product engineers can adopt and use with confidence.
Responsibilities - Create tools, services, and APIs for provisioning, changing, migrating, and troubleshooting data infrastructure. - Automate operational work such as upgrades, access requests, backups, and restores. - Help maintain and strengthen production data stores, and participate in an on-call rotation. - Advise product teams on schema design, database migrations, query performance, and ORM use. - Manage infrastructure with Terraform, improve delivery pipelines, and build useful instrumentation and alerts. - Promote safe change, reliability, security, and platform adoption; use generative AI to support internal service development and maintenance.
Requirements - Strong backend engineering skills in a general-purpose language such as Python, Go, or Java, including experience building and testing production services and APIs. - Hands-on experience running relational databases in production, designing schemas, shipping migrations, investigating slow queries, and selecting indexes. - Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as retries, idempotency, consistency, and failure handling. - AWS experience, including IAM, RDS, and networking fundamentals, plus infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform. - Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and operating production systems, including on-call response and blameless postmortems. - A track record of building internal tools such as CLIs, APIs, or automation with attention to usability and adoption.
Nice to have Experience with PostgreSQL, Kafka, Debezium, data lakes, or analytics pipelines is relevant. The described environment also includes GitHub Actions, Datadog, Apache Iceberg, Airflow, and dbt.
