About this role
Role overview Build the delivery practices and technical pipeline needed to release software more frequently and safely for a portfolio of civil engineering systems. The initial focus is migrating an application to a defense software factory while integrating automated tests, security scanning, and compliance evidence into the delivery process. You will also coach government engineers so the practices can continue after the engagement. The position is contingent on the underlying contract being awarded.
Responsibilities - Build and operate CI/CD pipelines that include automated testing, security scanning, and software bill of materials generation. - Help move the first application onto a defense software factory and assess delivery pipeline options for other applications. - Work with software and security engineers to protect sensitive data and produce evidence for continuous authorization. - Apply iterative engineering practices, including simple design and automated testing, to improve software delivery. - Pair with and coach government engineers and incoming developers on maintaining modern delivery practices. - Learn existing release processes with government partners and identify where testing or security practices can be integrated earlier.
Requirements - Understand modern software development and work effectively with software engineers and cross-functional teams. - Experience building CI/CD pipelines with integrated security scanning and managing interconnected cloud systems for availability, reliability, and resilience. - Ability to build secure, compliant applications and address common vulnerabilities. - Experience with infrastructure as code, deployment standards, and application or infrastructure monitoring, metrics, alerting, logging, auditability, and compliance. - Experience in a government or regulated environment with formal security authorization, such as an ATO. - Able to collaborate and stay accountable on remote teams working through iterative delivery.
Nice to have - Experience with a defense software factory or migrating applications to one, and experience operating on-premises systems or moving workloads from on-premises environments to cloud.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, with occasional travel to Montgomery, Alabama, and other U.S. Air Force bases. Start timing depends on contract award. - Benefits include health coverage, retirement matching, paid time off and holidays, parental leave, and annual professional development and technology allowances.
