Head of Forward Deployed Engineering

Role overview A player-coach engineering leadership role managing a team of six engineers while remaining deeply hands-on with code. The position turns customer problems into secure, reliable AI products that hit engagement goals, with the expectation that nearly all code is written using AI assistance under careful human review. The role sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer success within an AI-native organization that combines services, software, and AI to drive measurable customer results.

Responsibilities - Lead six engineers: assign work, sequence projects, manage capacity, and develop the team - Own technical standards, architecture, code review, and release readiness - Talk to customers regularly to discover real problems, test assumptions, and define success metrics - Drive product engagement across rollout, activation, repeat use, and recovery when goals are missed - Govern security and AI costs including access controls, token attribution, evaluations, budgets, and monitoring - Build reusable components and delivery playbooks the engineering team actually adopts

Requirements - Track record managing engineers while staying technically credible and actively building - Production systems shipped and operated, with measurable customer adoption or business outcomes - Daily fluency with AI-assisted engineering workflows, including how AI-written code is created, tested, reviewed, and maintained - Strong organization, attention to detail, customer development, product judgment, and clear communication - Examples of scoping decisions, including narrowing focus or stopping work to serve a larger goal - History of growth in scope, promotions, or equivalent increases in responsibility
