About this role
Role overview
A senior backend engineer is needed to build and own the orchestration engine at the heart of an internet simulation platform used by government, military, enterprise, and research teams to train, test, and validate defenses against evolving cyber threats. The role centers on the control plane that ties together simulation layers, networks, services, identity, and storage, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems correctness, operational rigor, and multi-tenant reliability. It is a high-impact position suited to engineers who enjoy building foundational systems that other engineering teams depend on.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the external-facing control plane API that drives range orchestration, scenario management, and user emulation, with careful attention to idempotency and consistency - Develop the event-driven orchestration backbone that coordinates actions across simulation layers, networking, services, identity, and storage in a distributed, multi-range deployment - Own persistent storage infrastructure covering service data, content corpora, certificate stores, topology state, and dependent volumes - Shape the deployment and operational model for the platform as a long-lived Kubernetes-native product, including upgrade paths, multi-range scaling, and configuration for new range integrations - Collaborate with the network simulation tech lead on in-range proxy agent infrastructure that bridges the control plane to individual range deployments
Requirements
- Significant senior-level backend engineering experience building distributed systems at scale - Strong instincts for distributed systems correctness, including consistency, fault tolerance, and operational reliability - Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and API design for complex platforms - Proficiency with Kubernetes-native deployment patterns and managing long-lived, multi-tenant production systems - Track record of building systems other engineers depend on, with disciplined operational rigor
Nice to have
- Experience with simulation platforms, cybersecurity tooling, or range and sandbox environments - Familiarity with control plane design patterns and multi-tenant SaaS architecture - Comfort working across time zones with distributed engineering teams
Benefits and work setup
- Base monthly compensation between 1,500,000 CRC and 2,500,000 CRC, plus annual bonuses tied to company and individual performance - Private medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage - Confidential mental health counseling and coaching resources for employees and their families - Paid parental leave to support major life moments - Equity stock options at hire, with additional annual performance-based grants - Membership to a professional learning platform for ongoing development - Monthly reimbursements for team social activities - Remote or office-based collaboration across regions and time zones
