Remote job
Operations Engineer/Sr. Operations Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Provide engineering support across a utility-scale solar fleet, investigating technical problems, improving plant reliability, and recovering performance. The role spans field troubleshooting and engineering analysis across PV, DC, and AC systems, while coordinating with operations teams and external service providers. Level is based on
experience: Operations Engineer or Senior Operations Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Help operations teams troubleshoot plant issues and coordinate corrective actions from initial investigation through resolution. - Investigate recurring defects, major equipment failures, and sustained underperformance across individual sites and the wider fleet. - Turn field observations, inspection findings, and performance data into clear diagnoses and practical fixes. - Address issues across PV modules, trackers, DC collection and grounding, inverters, medium-voltage systems, transformers, and interconnection equipment. - Improve reliability through root cause analysis, preventive maintenance reviews, spare-parts planning, and continuous improvement; assess activities such as thermography and transformer testing. - Coordinate technical escalations, warranty matters, and vendor performance; contribute operational findings to commissioning, project handover, design reviews, and equipment evaluations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; electrical engineering is preferred. - Relevant experience of 0–5 years for the Operations Engineer level or 6+ years for the Senior level. Utility-scale solar operations experience is required for the Senior level and preferred for the Engineer level. - Field troubleshooting experience with solar plant equipment, such as PV and DC systems, inverters, or medium-voltage equipment. - Broad understanding of utility-scale PV systems, and ability to read electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications. - Familiarity with electrical inspection and testing methods, plant monitoring and communications systems, and applicable NEC, NESC, IEEE, IEC, and NETA requirements. - Strong diagnostic, root cause analysis, organization, and communication skills; experience working across teams and with equipment makers, contractors, or service providers.
Nice to have
- Experience with commissioning, project turnover, or design reviews. - Experience with insulation resistance or VLF testing, transformer electrical testing, thermography, or dissolved gas analysis.
