About this role
Role overview
A venture-backed, early-stage team is building a software platform that helps consumer goods brands manage product lab testing, regulatory compliance, and supply-chain transparency. As an early software hire, you would work alongside the founding engineer and directly with customers to design, build, and iterate on a modern SaaS product from the ground up. This is a 0-to-1 opportunity suited to someone who wants meaningful ownership over architecture and feature decisions in a fast-moving startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and build a modern SaaS platform that helps CPG brands and manufacturers run and manage lab testing workflows - Collaborate directly with the founding engineer and end customers to refine requirements and ship product iteratively - Evaluate systems-architecture trade-offs and make informed technical decisions that shape the platform's direction - Implement security best practices to protect sensitive testing data and maintain application integrity - Contribute to UI/UX decisions and partner with design teammates to deliver a polished user experience
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience - Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, React, Tailwind CSS, and PostgreSQL - Comfortable working autonomously in an early-stage, high-growth startup environment - Track record of taking initiative and executing quickly in ambiguous situations - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to zoom between big-picture strategy and hands-on implementation - Genuine enthusiasm for improving transparency and trust in the consumer goods supply chain
Nice to have
- Prior experience applying UI/UX best practices in close collaboration with design teams - Background working on compliance-oriented, data-heavy, or consumer-facing products
Benefits and work setup
- Compensation range of $60,000–$110,000 USD annually - Paid 3–4 week part-time trial focused on a clearly scoped, high-impact project - Self-directed work with ownership over architecture and product decisions from day one - Regular check-ins for feedback, progress review, and expectation alignment
