Database Reliability Engineer

Role overview The role is responsible for keeping the database tier of a privacy-first encrypted vault fast, available, and safe to change. Day-to-day work spans replication, failover, query tuning, and schema migrations, all with a constant eye on user data integrity. It blends deep operational ownership with on-call responsibility and post-incident learning.

Responsibilities - Operate primary and replica topologies with automated failover and replication lag monitoring - Partner with application engineers on safe migration strategies such as expand/contract and online DDL - Tune slow queries, indexes, and connection pools using production metrics - Define backup and restore SLAs tailored to the relational and document stores in use - Participate in on-call rotations and lead blameless reviews after database incidents

Requirements - Several years of DBRE or senior DBA experience with MySQL, Postgres, or similar engines at scale - Deep understanding of replication, locking, and transaction isolation pitfalls - Scripting ability for automation, including tools like Orchestrator or pt-online-schema-change - Composure when production queries degrade under load
