Role overview A cybersecurity company is forming a new AI Platform team to accelerate AI feature delivery across its product suite while meeting strict security, cost, and quality standards. The Principal Engineer will serve as founding technical leader, defining the multi-year roadmap and architecture for the platform underpinning every AI-powered capability. The role blends platform leadership with hands-on customer-facing AI work.
Responsibilities - Define the technical vision and multi-year roadmap for the AI Platform, including model gateway/routing, agent and MCP infrastructure, evaluation pipelines, and AI observability - Own architecture decisions, set engineering standards, and review critical designs across the team - Translate business strategy into platform capabilities alongside product and engineering leaders - Build customer-facing AI experiences, then platformize what was built into shared, reusable capabilities - Drive build-vs-buy decisions for the core stack, weighing security, cost, scalability, and time-to-value - Mentor senior engineers and serve as a recognized expert on AI infrastructure across the organization
Requirements - 12+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems, including several years driving platform or infrastructure architecture - 2+ years of hands-on experience taking LLM-based systems to production (model integration and routing, retrieval or agent architectures, evaluation harnesses, cost/latency/quality optimization) - Strong coding skills in a mainstream backend language such as Python or Go, with deep Kubernetes and AWS/GCP experience - Strong product acumen and ability to engage business stakeholders - Proven track record leading cross-team initiatives with ambiguous requirements
