About this role

Role overview Lead the design and delivery of optimisation algorithms and decision-support software for operational challenges across areas such as transport, logistics, workforce scheduling, and media planning. Work end to end, from understanding a problem and building a mathematical model through production deployment and measuring operational impact, while providing technical guidance within a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities - Formulate operational problems and develop optimisation approaches, including mathematical programming, decomposition, and heuristics. - Build scalable software components and take algorithms through integration, deployment, and ongoing improvement. - Work with clients and internal partners to clarify requirements and turn them into practical technical solutions. - Improve the robustness and production readiness of decision-support systems, including their data, runtime, and observability. - Support colleagues through technical leadership and code reviews in an agile, interdisciplinary team. - Focus on measurable operational value when selecting and refining models.

Requirements - Strong optimisation and mathematical modelling experience, with the ability to select appropriate methods for real operational problems. - Deep programming expertise in at least one of Python, Java, or Rust. - Familiarity with software delivery practices such as Git, CI/CD, containerisation, cloud platforms, and workflow orchestration. - Ability to work across technical and domain disciplines and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. - A collaborative, pragmatic approach, with constructive feedback and support for team wellbeing. - Curiosity about developments in optimisation, software engineering, and AI/ML; able to adapt as priorities change.

Benefits and work setup The role is remote within a UK time zone range of plus or minus two hours, and may be offered as a contract or permanent, full-time position. Working hours are flexible. Listed benefits include enhanced pension, life assurance, income protection, private healthcare, 27 days of annual leave plus public holidays, enhanced family leave, and an annual bonus.
