Role overview
Set the technical direction for a shared geospatial platform used by product teams building location-aware software. The work spans map data pipelines, spatial services, and APIs, with a focus on making geospatial capabilities accurate, reliable, scalable, and reusable across products. This is a remote role open to candidates in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Design and build systems to ingest, process, enrich, and serve map data such as road networks, addresses, points of interest, and boundaries. - Develop geospatial services and integrations, including foundations for map matching and routing. - Scale storage, queries, and computation to support real-time product features. - Bring separate team-specific solutions together into shared platform capabilities. - Set technical direction, guide design and code reviews, and mentor engineers across teams. - Work with engineering leaders and internal users to choose priorities, weigh tradeoffs, and improve how customers access map data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent practical experience. - At least 8 years of software development experience, including 2 or more years in technical leadership or architecture. - Strong software design and programming fundamentals. - At least 4 years working with large-scale distributed systems. - At least 4 years leading technical projects that span multiple teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with GIS and spatial analysis, including PostGIS, spatial SQL, GeoPandas, Shapely, QGIS, or geospatial data validation. - Familiarity with open mapping data and formats such as OpenStreetMap, OSM PBF, and GeoParquet, including data ingestion, transformation, validation, or serving. - Ability to align teams and make progress in ambiguous situations.
Benefits and work setup
The role is remote within the United States. Compensation includes a stated annual base salary range of $162,400–$290,000 and eligibility for an initial equity grant and ongoing performance-related grants, subject to plan terms.
