Staff Analytics Engineer - Energy & Building Systems
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Establish sound engineering judgment for analytics that identify building performance issues, estimate energy savings, and may lead to automated HVAC control. This hands-on role combines building systems expertise, trend-data analysis, measurement and verification, and customer-facing technical reviews. You will also help define methods and standards as the analytics and rule library grow.
Responsibilities
- Validate analytics findings against building records and trend data, and maintain the quality of the rules that produce them. - Develop and prioritize new rules, including investigating potential savings beyond the existing rule set. - Assess prospective buildings and determine which equipment and points should be monitored, based on expected value. - Create measurement and verification methods for individual buildings and measures, including cases where standard approaches do not fit. - Decide when findings are ready to become control actions and implement those actions safely using BACnet priority handling. - Lead technical reviews with customer engineering and facilities teams, and relay findings to product and engineering colleagues.
Requirements
- Mechanical, controls, or energy engineering experience, with the ability to work directly with building trend data. - Skill in assessing evidence from drawings, equipment records, reports, sensor trends, and customer or site confirmation; ability to explain confidence and remaining gaps. - Ability to verify findings and distinguish equipment problems from faulty sensors or offline controllers. - Practical analysis skills using code, analytics tools, or AI agents, with care to check the accuracy of queries and results. - Understanding of BACnet priority arrays, write priority, relinquish defaults, and conflicts with operator overrides. - Ability to interpret system sequences and determine what building points and equipment represent.
