About this role
Role overview A defense and public-safety software company is hiring a Senior Product Designer to lead end-to-end UX and UI across a portfolio of operational products used in remote and disconnected environments. The role partners closely with product management and engineering, drawing from and contributing to a unified design system while operating with a high degree of autonomy as the sole designer embedded within the team.
Responsibilities - Drive end-to-end UX and UI for both desktop and mobile surfaces, from problem framing through build-ready design. - Partner daily with product management and engineering as a co-owner of the experience, presenting rationale and tradeoffs to cross-functional stakeholders. - Define and articulate a design north star while balancing rapid iteration with meaningful, shippable outcomes. - Build domain fluency through independent research, sharp questioning, and direct exposure to end users, including occasional travel. - Use shared components and tokens from the existing design system where they fit and contribute new ones back for other teams.
Requirements - 7+ years of product design experience. - 5+ years of professional Figma use, with an expert-level, systemized approach grounded in reusable components, variants, styles, and Auto Layout. - A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of shipped product work rather than isolated polished screens. - High comfort with ambiguity and autonomy, including the ability to drive work without design backup in a remote, async environment. - A bias toward speed and a fail-fast mindset, with the discipline to add rigor when decisions warrant it. - Strong written and verbal communication, plus comfort using AI tools as part of the daily workflow.
Nice to have - Startup experience, ideally where design was early or still being established. - Background building or contributing to a shared design system. - Experience designing complex B2B, enterprise, or operational software, including data-dense interfaces, mapping or GIS tooling, or command-and-control-style products. - Native mobile app design experience and working knowledge of front-end concepts such as HTML, CSS, or Tailwind.
Benefits and work setup - Base salary range of $140,000 to $180,000 plus equity. - Medical, dental, and vision coverage, HSA/FSA options, and parental leave. - 401(k) with a 100% match on the first 6% contributed. - Unlimited paid time off and a home office stipend.
