FinOps Engineer

Role overview

This role focuses on reducing and governing cloud infrastructure spend across AWS and GCP environments. It combines hands-on engineering, automation, financial analysis, and cross-functional partnership to turn cost-saving opportunities into measurable results while helping technical teams make cost-aware architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

- Analyze billing, usage, and cost trends to identify rightsizing, storage, data-transfer, spot-capacity, and autoscaling opportunities. - Implement savings through infrastructure changes, scripts, serverless functions, and infrastructure-as-code rather than stopping at recommendations. - Build tagging, allocation, chargeback, and showback practices so teams can understand and take ownership of their cloud spend. - Automate cost reporting, anomaly detection, alerts, and policy enforcement using tools such as Python, Terraform, Lambda, Pulumi, or Bash. - Partner with engineering teams during architecture planning to balance cost, reliability, and performance. - Support finance processes including budget tracking, forecasting, KPI reporting, and dashboards understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

- Strong AWS expertise and working knowledge of GCP pricing, billing structures, and cost-optimization methods. - Practical experience with cloud cost analysis and financial-governance workflows. - Ability to automate operational processes with Python, Terraform or Pulumi, Lambda, Bash, or comparable tools. - Familiarity with cloud billing reports, cost explorers, and business-intelligence or dashboarding tools. - Ability to explain savings opportunities clearly to engineers, finance partners, and leadership. - Previous experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud governance, with approximately three or more years of relevant experience.

Nice to have

- Experience with a dedicated cloud cost-management platform. - Familiarity with collaborative work-management and documentation tools used to track FinOps initiatives. - Comfort working independently on detailed, sometimes unglamorous tasks that have significant operational impact.
