Job details
About this role
Role overview
Develop and evaluate backend software tasks that test how AI systems handle code repair, API construction, data processing, and performance improvement. The work involves creating reproducible environments, preparing reference solutions, debugging realistic issues, and documenting the reasoning behind technical decisions. This is a remote contract opportunity for a backend developer who can move comfortably between unfamiliar codebases and communicate implementation choices clearly.
Responsibilities
- Create practical code samples, debugging scenarios, and backend development examples in Python 3, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript. - Design reproducible environments and reliable reference implementations for backend programming problems. - Diagnose and fix defects involving server-side logic, data handling, APIs, databases, and application performance. - Build small to medium-sized features, including API endpoints and database functionality, using sound engineering practices. - Refactor backend code and database queries to improve clarity, efficiency, reliability, and maintainability. - Review technical submissions and peer code for correctness, quality, and clarity.
Requirements
- At least one year of hands-on development experience in one or more of Python 3, Java, Go, Rust, C++, or TypeScript. - Solid understanding of API design, SQL or NoSQL databases, and core data structures. - Ability to trace backend problems to their root causes and implement clean fixes. - Comfort learning unfamiliar systems and working across different codebases. - Strong documentation and communication skills for explaining code and technical reasoning. - Interest in AI-related engineering challenges; prior AI experience is not required.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote contract position. - Compensation listed at $65–$120 per hour. - The role may suit junior- or mid-level backend engineers depending on experience.
