Senior AI Engineer (f/m/x)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior back-end engineering role focused on building the internal AI platform that underpins an organisation-wide move toward AI-native operations. The position owns the services, integrations, and deployment pathways that take internal AI tools from prototype to secure, reliable, full-scale production use, partnering closely with the leader of the internal technology and AI portfolio. Success is measured by how effectively internal tools reach users, how well they perform, and the clarity of visibility into what is running, who owns it, what outcomes it drives, and what it costs.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate back-end services, APIs, and integrations that power internal AI tools and workflows. - Manage a secure, supported deployment path that enables non-engineers to launch internal tools with built-in guardrails. - Build and maintain shared AI capabilities, including reusable skills, plugins, MCP connectors, and a central registry of tools, ownership, and costs. - Move business-critical automations from individual machines onto reliable, supported infrastructure. - Establish and continuously improve technical standards, runtimes, and best practices for internal AI development. - Drive adoption through demonstrations, documentation, and hands-on support for departmental AI champions, while documenting systems so others can operate and extend them.
Requirements
- Senior back-end engineering experience building and operating production systems in Go, Python, or a comparable language, owning services end to end from architecture through monitoring and reliability. - Hands-on experience shipping AI- or LLM-powered applications to production, including model integration, evaluation, observability, and incident response. - Working knowledge of modern AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and concepts including reusable skills, plugins, MCP integrations, and agent orchestration. - Ability to make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions and to know when to simplify or stop an initiative. - Strong product mindset when treating internal users as customers, paired with clear, constructive feedback on what is ready to ship. - Security-conscious approach covering identity, access control, secrets, and data exposure from the outset.
Nice to have
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform. - Strong Go experience, or strong Python with an interest in working in Go. - Background in product discovery. - Familiarity with corporate IT, identity and access management, or application security. - Experience supporting an organisation through an AI transformation.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote role open to candidates based in Europe including the UK, with a valid right to work. - Optional access to a physical office space, with three in-person office weeks per year for collaboration and workshops. - Dedicated departmental learning budget for courses, conferences, and other growth opportunities. - Access to private sessions with experts for personal growth and mental wellbeing. - High-autonomy culture with flexible self-organisation and a feedback-driven, fact-based decision-making style.
