Role overview
Staff-level engineer shaping the observability platform that supports a large, distributed production environment. The work spans metrics, logs, traces, and the developer experience around instrumentation. It is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical leadership scope.
Responsibilities
- Architect and build core components of the observability stack, including collection, storage, and querying layers - Set technical direction for instrumentation standards across services and languages - Improve the on-call and debugging experience through better tooling, dashboards, and alerting - Partner with service owners to adopt observability best practices and SLO-driven development - Mentor engineers and lead design reviews for reliability-critical systems
Requirements
- Substantial professional experience building production software, including senior-level contributions to platform or infrastructure systems - Deep knowledge of distributed systems, telemetry pipelines, or time-series and log stores - Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages commonly used for high-throughput services - Experience designing systems that balance cost, scale, and query performance - Strong communication skills and comfort working across many teams
