About this role
Role overview A player-coach engineering leadership role guiding a server team responsible for the full member lifecycle of an iOS membership application. The scope covers application intake, authentication, onboarding, subscriptions, in-app purchases, renewals, referrals, and member communications, with the systems being relatively new and tied directly to revenue outcomes.
Responsibilities - Manage, mentor, and grow a team of server engineers, including hiring, onboarding, and career development. - Contribute hands-on to the codebase at roughly fifty percent of the role, providing technical leadership across architecture and system design. - Partner with product, design, data, and senior leadership to scope and ship high-impact features from concept through launch. - Oversee the development of scalable, secure cloud services and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, observability, and long-term maintainability. - Champion an operational excellence program, including production readiness, monitoring, and on-call practices. - Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture and support cross-functional delivery.
Requirements - Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience. - Two or more years managing high-performing software engineering teams. - Deep knowledge of Node.js and TypeScript, plus familiarity with cloud architectures, services, deployment models, and distributed systems. - Production experience with Apple StoreKit and with Stripe for payments and subscriptions in a B2C product. - Experience leading projects from concept through launch and partnering across functions. - Demonstrated success sourcing, hiring, and developing engineers, with strong communication skills.
Nice to have - Familiarity with MongoDB or PostgreSQL in production environments. - An AI-forward mindset and curiosity about applying emerging tools to developer and product workflows.
