Automation Engineer (n8n & Integrations)

Role overview

This role finds where client teams lose hours to manual work and builds the automations that give that time back, using n8n alongside custom APIs and code where no-code tools fall short. The work spans mapping messy processes, designing replacement workflows, and shipping integrations that clients can run themselves afterward.

Responsibilities

- Map a client's current process and design the workflow that replaces it - Build and maintain automations across CRMs, spreadsheets, payment tools, help desks, and messaging platforms - Add the often-forgotten operational details: retries, error handling, alerts, logging, and clear ownership - Decide when a no-code workflow is enough and when custom code is the better choice - Document everything built so clients can operate it independently

Requirements

- Hands-on experience building workflows with n8n, Make, Zapier, or similar, including pushing past their limits - Comfort reading API documentation and writing JavaScript or TypeScript - Habit of thinking about failure modes, not just the happy path - Enjoyment of turning messy, manual processes into clean, repeatable ones

Nice to have

- Experience with webhooks, OAuth, and rate limits - Background in operations, finance, or support, giving firsthand familiarity with the work being automated
