Automation Engineer (n8n & Integrations)
Job details
About this role
Role overview A consulting team is hiring an automation engineer to help client operations teams recover hours lost to repetitive manual work such as copy-pasting between tools, chasing approvals, and rebuilding reports. The focus is on diagnosing where time disappears, then designing and shipping workflows that return that time, using low-code platforms alongside custom APIs and code where needed.
Responsibilities - Map a client's existing process end to end and design the workflow that will replace it. - Build and maintain automations that connect CRMs, spreadsheets, payment tools, help desks, and messaging platforms. - Add the unglamorous but critical pieces: retries, error handling, alerts, logging, and clear ownership for each step. - Judge when a no-code tool is enough and when a custom-coded approach is the better fit. - Write documentation so client teams can operate and extend the automations on their own.
Requirements - Hands-on experience building workflows in n8n, Make, Zapier, or comparable tools, and a clear sense of where they hit their limits. - Comfort reading API documentation and writing JavaScript or TypeScript. - A habit of designing for failure, not just for the happy path. - Ability to turn a messy, ambiguous process into something structured and well-defined.
Nice to have - Familiarity with webhooks, OAuth flows, and API rate limits. - A background in operations, finance, or support that gives first-hand understanding of the work being automated.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first team working with clients based in the US, UK, and India. - Weekly shipping cadence with a demo of working software to the client each week. - Clients retain ownership of the source code and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on handover and knowledge transfer.
