FDA - Platform Engineer

Role overview A senior platform engineering role focused on building and operating the internal developer platform that powers data, analytics, and machine learning workloads for a federal health mission. The position owns cloud-native infrastructure across AWS GovCloud, with emphasis on self-service developer experience, multi-tenancy, and paved paths from commit to production. The work spans infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes operations, MLOps enablement, and compliance automation.

Responsibilities - Evolve the Terraform and ArgoCD foundation so the platform is declarative, self-healing, and recoverable from scratch. - Operate a multi-tenant internal developer platform with golden-path onboarding, tenant and environment management, an application and tooling catalog, and internal CLI tooling. - Run Kubernetes on AWS GovCloud, including Karpenter and KEDA autoscaling, Gateway API ingress, cert-manager, and ALB integration across dev, pre-prod, and production. - Architect AIOps and MLOps capabilities covering GPU scheduling, model training and serving, managed notebooks, generative AI workloads, and production ML pipelines. - Enable a lakehouse architecture with Trino, Iceberg, Glue, S3, Dagster orchestration, and dbt for reliable data access. - Deliver observability and SLOs through Prometheus, Grafana, and actionable alerting. - Automate security and compliance, including secrets management, network policy, IRSA least-privilege, policy-as-code, vulnerability remediation, and ATO artifact generation. - Author platform documentation, runbooks, and production-readiness standards, partnering directly with government stakeholders.

Requirements - Seven or more years in platform engineering, DevSecOps, site reliability, or cloud engineering with senior-level ownership of a production platform. - Hands-on experience building an internal developer platform or PaaS that went through ATO for a federal program. - Deep expertise with Kubernetes (EKS), GitOps using ArgoCD or Flux, and Terraform infrastructure-as-code. - Strong CI/CD background with GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or progressive delivery patterns. - Fluency in Python, Bash, or Go for automation and scripting. - Working knowledge of NIST 800-53, FISMA, and ATO processes in GovCloud or regulated environments. - U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have - Production MLOps experience with SageMaker, Bedrock, Kubeflow, MLflow, Ray, KServe, Triton, or Seldon. - Familiarity with data lakehouse patterns, Trino or Presto, Spark, and Dagster or Airflow. - Experience with policy-as-code (OPA, Gatekeeper, Kyverno), container security, SBOMs, and cloud cost management.
