Role overview A senior engineering role focused on building the development environments, automation pipelines, and internal tooling that enable safety-critical embedded software for a next-generation avionics System-on-Chip (SoC) platform. The position blends DevOps craftsmanship with deep familiarity in regulated aerospace software lifecycles, working across CI/CD, containerization, and engineering productivity. The role is primarily remote with up to 20% travel to Cedar Rapids, IA, and requires U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilities - Architect and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines that integrate the full safety-critical software lifecycle, from build through verification and release. - Develop and maintain Docker-based containers, virtualized environments, and reusable development infrastructure. - Build automation scripts, test harnesses, and homegrown engineering tools that reduce manual effort and standardize workflows across teams. - Support embedded software development across boot, application, and RTOS environments, including platforms such as VxWorks and LynxOS. - Integrate and support tooling for static analysis, code coverage, requirements verification, traceability, and timing analysis aligned to DO-178C processes. - Document processes, produce work instructions and training, and drive continuous improvements in engineering productivity.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience. - Hands-on experience developing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, or similar tools. - Experience with containerized or virtualized development environments, including Docker. - Strong automation and scripting skills in Python, Bash, or comparable languages. - Working knowledge of embedded software build, integration, test, and release workflows in safety-critical or regulated environments. - Understanding of DO-178C lifecycle processes, including traceability, verification, and configuration management expectations. - U.S. citizenship required.
Nice to have - Experience supporting DO-178C DAL A software development and certification activities. - Familiarity with DO-330 tool qualification. - Hands-on work with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks or LynxOS, avionics processing platforms, or embedded software development.
Benefits and work setup - Primarily remote work with up to 20% travel to Cedar Rapids, IA. - Pay range of $125,000–$150,000 USD, with compensation based on candidate experience and certifications.
