Intern, Quantum Algorithms and Compilation
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Contribute to research and software development that helps apply quantum computing to practical problems in areas such as chemistry, drug design, materials science, and fluid dynamics. Depending on project needs, the work may focus on designing algorithms, improving fault-tolerant routines, compiling circuits for logical gate sets, adapting solutions to a system architecture, or estimating resource requirements. Prior experience in fault-tolerant algorithms or compilation is helpful, while strong interest in quantum computing is essential.
Responsibilities
- Develop quantum algorithms for problems with potential real-world impact. - Optimize widely used subroutines in fault-tolerant quantum algorithms. - Compile quantum algorithms into logical gate sets. - Apply architecture-aware optimizations to algorithms and circuits. - Estimate the quantum resources needed to implement proposed approaches. - Collaborate with researchers and software developers on quantum computing work.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or holding a postgraduate degree related to quantum algorithms, circuit compilation, fault tolerance, or another area of quantum computing; alternatively, at least five years of relevant professional experience. - Programming experience, for example in Python. - Familiarity with collaborative software development tools such as Git. - Creative, adaptable problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team.
Nice to have
- Prior work in fault-tolerant quantum algorithms or quantum compilation. - Interest in applications spanning chemistry, medicine, materials, or fluid dynamics.
Benefits and work setup
- U.S. intern pay is listed by completed education level: $27.50–$47.00 per hour. A housing or commuting stipend varies according to permanent residence.
