About this role
Role overview Join the gamification engineering group as a mid-to-senior backend engineer focused on customer rewards, incentives, and loyalty features for a high-traffic consumer platform. The team operates within a remote-first organization that processes millions of daily transactions and serves a passionate user base around real-time contests and engagement mechanics.
Responsibilities - Drive end-to-end ownership of Rails-based features, from technical design through delivery and iteration. - Produce production-quality Ruby code that emphasizes idiomatic style, performance, and robust automated testing. - Contribute to team-level architectural decisions covering data modeling, service boundaries, REST API design, and background processing. - Proactively identify opportunities to improve code quality, system reliability, performance, and developer experience. - Mentor less-experienced engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback sessions. - Participate in an on-call rotation, taking ownership of incident response, root-cause analysis, and systemic improvements.
Requirements - Three to five years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time building Ruby on Rails applications. - Advanced Rails proficiency with strong PostgreSQL skills spanning schema design, query optimization, and migrations. - Hands-on experience designing and shipping RESTful APIs from within a Rails codebase. - Solid automated testing practice using RSpec or Minitest, covering unit, integration, and end-to-end layers. - Familiarity with background job processing (Sidekiq or similar), Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. - Comfort working autonomously on ambiguous problems, providing and receiving direct technical feedback, and communicating effectively in writing.
Nice to have - Experience with AI-assisted development tools, agentic coding workflows, and event-driven architecture. - Prior remote engineering experience.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within the U.S., with a preference for candidates based in Atlanta. - Salary range of $145,000 to $165,000, plus an annual bonus and equity. - Subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match; flexible PTO; 16-week paid parental leave and disability benefits. - Company equipment provided (Windows or Mac), modern work schedules, and periodic in-person team events. - Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
