Senior Back End Engineer (Ruby on Rails & GO)

Role overview A fast-scaling daily fantasy sports platform is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join its Back Office team, the internal operational platform that powers trading, member operations, risk, and live scoring decisions seen by millions of members. The role spans both a mature Ruby on Rails codebase and a growing set of Go microservices, with active work to carve out new services as the architecture evolves. It is ideal for an engineer who enjoys end-to-end ownership, mentoring, and tackling complex problems at the intersection of monolith and microservices.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and own backend services across the Rails monolith and Go microservices, from API contracts through deployment and monitoring. - Support the ongoing migration toward a microservices architecture, helping decide what to extract and how to manage dual-write patterns and backward compatibility. - Build and maintain backend APIs that internal operators rely on for projection management, risk dashboards, alerting, and member operations. - Lead end-to-end technical delivery of complex features, including architecture, implementation, and production rollout. - Diagnose performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and improve resilience under load. - Mentor engineers across multiple levels through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements - 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful production time in both Ruby on Rails and Go. - Strong, idiomatic proficiency in Rails and Go, plus solid PostgreSQL skills including schema design and query tuning. - Experience designing and operating distributed systems or event-driven architectures. - Comfort with API design across REST and gRPC, asynchronous workflows such as Sidekiq or message queues, and containerization with Docker and Kubernetes. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing. - Comfort working autonomously on ambiguous problems and communicating tradeoffs clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have - Experience building internal platforms or operational tooling rather than purely member-facing products. - Background in high-traffic, real-time systems such as sports, gaming, fintech, or adtech. - Familiarity with infrastructure tooling such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and ArgoCD. - Experience in daily fantasy sports or sports betting. - Use of AI-assisted development tools across coding, planning, scoping, and code review.
