About this role
Role overview Lead the engineering team responsible for gamification features that encourage member engagement and retention. You’ll work across product, design, marketing, data, and engineering to shape priorities, make sound technical tradeoffs, and deliver polished user-facing capabilities while maintaining system health.
Responsibilities - Set technical investment priorities to support system reliability and long-term team goals. - Partner with engineers to scope and sequence work, weigh tradeoffs, and deliver measurable outcomes. - Hire, coach, and support a team of engineers and testers through regular feedback, goal setting, delegation, and conflict resolution. - Establish clear ownership, milestones, and a visible delivery cadence with cross-functional partners. - Identify delivery risks early, escalate when needed, and resolve gaps with lasting improvements. - Lead incident response and follow-up discussions that clarify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Requirements - At least four years managing a team of five or more engineers and testers. - Strong understanding of distributed backend systems and user-facing product features. - Experience building and shipping critical consumer systems where data correctness and rollout planning matter. - Clear communication and a record of effective collaboration across engineering and partner teams. - Technical fluency to guide engineering discussions, ask incisive questions, and align stakeholders. - Ability to build accountable, high-performing teams through thoughtful delegation and clear ownership.
Nice to have - Background with gamification products or platforms. - Experience designing reusable frameworks and decision models for both immediate and longer-term needs. - Familiarity with feature gating, experimentation, or A/B testing platforms. - Professional experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React, Ruby with Rails or Roda, or Go with Echo.
