About this role
Role overview
An engineering position on a distributed team developing an interface that translates natural language commands into structured actions for autonomous systems including drones, sensors, and mission software. The work focuses on turning research ideas and prototypes into reliable production code that performs in high-stakes environments. The team operates in a fast-paced startup setting that values hands-on contribution and technical rigor.
Responsibilities
- Build and refine production software for autonomous platforms, contributing to both system design and implementation. - Collaborate with R&D colleagues to bring concepts and prototypes to production quality. - Conduct performance analysis and apply low-level optimizations for efficiency, portability, and scalability. - Integrate software modules with robotic hardware, sensors, and mission tooling. - Participate in code reviews and engineering discussions that strengthen overall product quality.
Requirements
- Hands-on proficiency in C++ and/or Python. - Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and systems-level programming including threading, synchronization, and memory management. - Practical experience debugging, profiling, and optimizing complex software systems. - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, distributed startup environment. - Commitment to writing clean, maintainable code that holds up in real-world deployments.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with autonomy, robotics, or other performance-critical systems. - Exposure to machine learning techniques for natural language processing or autonomy. - Experience with embedded systems and real-time applications.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-friendly distributed team culture. - Structured interview process built around a take-home coding test and a team-led code walkthrough, designed to be low-stress and free of trick questions. - U.S. citizenship and current U.S. residency required due to federal compliance requirements.
