Remote job
Director of Product
Job details
About this role
Role overview A remote-first, engineering-led company that builds open-source orchestration, data platform, and developer tooling is hiring its first Director of Product to lead product thinking across its portfolio. The company recently brought together two long-standing platforms and an open-source developer framework into a single ecosystem, and the new leader will be the most senior dedicated product person, reporting to the Head of Engineering as a team of one. The work is about shaping how multiple products fit together, how discovery gets done, and how engineers across the org get better at product judgment.
Responsibilities - Own product cohesion across the portfolio, deciding where the products overlap, where they deliberately don't, and where the combined ecosystem is heading. - Build the product discovery practice: set the standard for user conversations, customer signal, and problem validation, and coach engineers to run their own user research well. - Partner with engineers to frame problems, weigh evidence, talk to users, and decide what not to build. - Design and own the system for measuring success post-launch, including what counts as validation and how learning feeds back into what gets built next. - Influence multi-team roadmaps and tough prioritization decisions without direct authority over the people building.
Requirements - 10+ years in product, with real leadership-level experience owning multi-team roadmaps and shipping through others. - Background operating in startups and engineering-led organizations where product weight is carried through influence rather than a formal PM org. - Ability to synthesize across domains, with multi-product portfolio, platform-versus-product tension, or post-acquisition integration experience. - Deep familiarity with the modern data stack, orchestration, or developer tools; hands-on experience with agentic systems or MCP is a strong plus. - A track record of making other people better at product.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with agentic systems or the Model Context Protocol ecosystem.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first team with a flexible-first culture and equity stock options. - 401(k) with immediate-vesting 5% company match and unlimited PTO. - Medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous parental leave, life and disability insurance, and an $800/month remote work stipend. - Disclosed US base salary ranges: $221,000–$276,000 for San Francisco Bay Area and NYC metro; $200,000–$257,000 for Washington D.C., Boston, LA metro, and Seattle; and $191,000–$238,000 for Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, and other US metros. Equity and benefits are not included in the ranges.
