Remote job
Robotics & Controls Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Own the robotics and controls foundation of an automated wash system, from configuring a seven-axis industrial robot to programming the PLC that sequences and safeguards machine operations. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will tune and test equipment directly, define safe operating limits for the software team, and support deployments in the field.
Responsibilities - Configure robot frames, tools, payloads, calibration, and joint, workspace, and zone limits. - Define safe motion boundaries, including software limits and speed and acceleration constraints. - Tune motion profiles for cycle time, smoothness, and collision avoidance in a confined operating area. - Program PLC sequencing, I/O, interlocks, fault handling, and interfaces to higher-level software. - Contribute to machine safety design and certification work alongside external specialists. - Support commissioning remotely and on site, using installation feedback to improve standard configurations.
Requirements - At least five years of industrial automation experience spanning both industrial robots and PLCs. - Hands-on experience with a major robot platform, including calibration, configuration, and motion tuning. - IEC 61131-3 PLC programming experience and familiarity with industrial communications such as OPC UA and fieldbuses. - Working knowledge of machine safety, including safety PLCs, interlocks, safe speed and zone monitoring, and emergency-stop circuits. - Comfortable measuring, testing, and tuning equipment on the machine. - Fluent English, with an autonomous and practical approach to problem solving.
Nice to have Experience with machinery CE marking, robot simulation or digital twins, ROS, Siemens or B&R systems, 3D CAD, industrial sensors, or wet and harsh environments.
Benefits and work setup Full-time role, remote within Europe with an option to work from an office in the Zurich area. Travel may reach 30% for customer deployments, testing, commissioning, and team collaboration. The work offers direct involvement in physical equipment and broad ownership across motion, PLC programming, and machine safety.
