Senior Snowflake Platform Engineer

Role overview

A senior engineering position focused on owning a Snowflake data platform that supports a growing commercial organization. Responsibilities

- Operate and maintain the Snowflake environment across development, test, and production, including databases, schemas, warehouses, roles, tasks, stored procedures, and related services, with a clear inventory of critical assets. - Design and automate role-based access, object ownership, grants, and access lifecycle controls, partnering with Identity and Security to enforce least-privilege access and timely reviews. - Proactively resolve production issues spanning workloads, ingestion, dependencies, authentication, and data freshness, performing root-cause analysis and building monitoring that detects problems early. - Establish resilient production support through actionable monitoring, runbooks, escalation paths, recovery procedures, rollback capabilities, incident response participation, and cross-training to remove single points of dependency. - Track and optimize consumption by workload and owner, forecast demand, set thresholds, and tune warehouse configuration and high-cost workloads without sacrificing reliability or performance. - Strengthen change management with version control, testing, peer review, automation, and controlled promotion, coordinating release readiness across Snowflake, connected applications, vendor integrations, and AWS dependencies.

Requirements

- 7+ years across data platforms, cloud engineering, or data engineering, or equivalent demonstrated depth, including substantial hands-on Snowflake production experience. - Strong SQL and Python skills with experience automating operational work and investigating complex production failures. - Deep practical knowledge of Snowflake security and operations, including roles, grants, object ownership, warehouses, tasks, stored procedures, and operational telemetry. - Experience managing enterprise identities, service credentials, least-privilege access, and access lifecycle controls in partnership with Identity and Security teams. - Ability to analyze platform consumption, optimize workloads, and balance cost, performance, and reliability tradeoffs thoughtfully. - Experience with Git-based workflows, peer review, automated testing, controlled releases, monitoring, incident response, and documented recovery procedures; bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience.
