Role overview A senior backend engineering role focused on rebuilding and scaling a next-generation fintech platform that powers payments and cash flow management for tens of thousands of businesses across North America. The work centers on high-throughput, cloud-native systems that move money, orchestrate complex financial workflows, and surface real-time insights, with meaningful ownership over architecture and engineering standards.
Responsibilities - Design and deliver scalable backend services built on .NET and Azure, with a strong emphasis on clean, testable code - Architect and evolve event-driven, distributed systems that process high volumes of financial transactions - Build API-first services with reliable contracts, observability, and clear service boundaries - Lead complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from design through production rollout - Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability - Partner with product and design to translate ambiguous business problems into elegant technical solutions
Requirements - 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience in high-growth or product-led environments - Strong expertise in C# (or another strongly typed language) and modern backend design principles - Deep hands-on experience designing and operating production RESTful APIs - Cloud-native architecture experience with Kubernetes, serverless, and managed services, ideally on Azure - Experience building distributed, high-throughput systems and event-driven architectures such as Kafka - Solid grasp of automated testing strategies and data storage patterns across RDBMS and NoSQL systems
Nice to have - Background in fintech, payments, or other regulated domains - Prior startup experience helping scale both systems and teams - Comfort using AI tools to increase delivery velocity and code quality
