This is a senior engineering management role leading a team focused on content understanding through machine learning at scale. The team builds foundational semantic signals that power relevance, personalization, and discovery across multiple product surfaces including search, growth, and advertising. The position blends people leadership, technical direction, and cross-functional partnership to drive measurable impact on user and business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and applied scientists building content understanding signals and infrastructure used throughout the platform - Set long-term technical vision for semantic signal generation, reusable foundational layers, and model-powered infrastructure, partnering closely with product, data science, and downstream engineering teams - Drive project execution including roadmap planning, technical decision-making, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication to deliver business goals - Tackle open technical questions around applying VLM and LLM technologies to extract semantic richness across multiple locales with strong precision, recall, and coverage - Improve inference throughput, freshness, and serving efficiency so that content signals keep pace with millions of newly added content items per day - Build monitoring, evaluation, and debugging systems that ensure signal quality, accessibility, latency, and freshness at scale
Requirements
- 7+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years managing engineers or applied scientists - Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent practical experience - Publications at top machine learning or data mining venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, KDD, or SIGIR - Hands-on experience with large-scale distributed training and inference of LLM and VLM models - Familiarity with distributed tooling for ML data pipelines such as Hadoop or Spark - Track record leading ambiguous ML projects that apply generative AI to content understanding or recommendation systems - Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to align senior stakeholders on complex technical tradeoffs
