Staff Data Engineer - US Remote

Role overview

This is a senior, staff-level data engineering seat focused on turning a high-level platform vision into a working, unified data foundation for a healthcare communication and collaboration product portfolio. The hire will partner closely with an existing architecture group to refine the detailed design, then own implementation and integration end to end. It is a remote US position aimed at engineers who want to influence foundational decisions while the platform is being built, rather than inheriting one that is already settled.

Responsibilities

- Own the implementation design across ingestion, modeling, and the consumption surfaces of the unified data platform - Shape the detailed architecture from a high-level direction already mapped by the architecture team - Design integrations across a varied set of production source systems and build ingestion pipelines from them - Transform raw data into business-ready datasets with a single agreed definition per metric - Set engineering standards for the team, including data quality and testing practices - Partner with platform and operations teams on safe, low-impact extraction from production databases, work directly with data consumers so outputs answer real questions, and mentor data engineers

Requirements

- Substantial experience building and operating cloud data platforms, ideally including at least one designed from scratch - Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and judgement about which decisions are costly to reverse - Deep SQL plus strong command of a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks - Hands-on experience with a transformation framework like dbt, with clear opinions on project structure - ELT and change-data-capture experience across relational sources - Working AWS knowledge covering read replicas, object storage, and cross-region data movement - Applied dimensional or medallion modeling, plus workflow orchestration with Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar - A habit of treating data quality testing as part of normal engineering work
