Senior Platform Engineer - US Remote

Role overview

This is a senior platform engineering seat on a small data platform team building new infrastructure in AWS for a regulated healthcare environment. The role owns the cloud footprint, the deployment path, and the access model that lets a data pipeline safely read from production systems that hold protected health information. It is greenfield-style work, with the access model designed from scratch rather than inherited, and a strong emphasis on declarative, version-controlled infrastructure over manual operations.

Responsibilities

- Own the AWS infrastructure for the data platform, defined entirely as code - Build and maintain a GitOps-driven deployment path with continuous delivery - Design least-privilege access to production data sources across credentials, network routes, and permissions - Stand up observability so reliability is built in rather than added later - Administer the Kubernetes workloads that the platform runs on - Partner with the security team to meet healthcare and multi-tenant compliance requirements - Automate operational work, favoring autoscaling and self-healing over hands-on fixes

Requirements

- Deep AWS expertise across networking (VPC design, cross-region and cross-account data movement, private connectivity, VPN), IAM (designing least-privilege models rather than only applying existing policies), managed databases (RDS, Aurora, SQL Server including read replicas), and storage (S3 with attention to access patterns and bucket policy) - Terraform or CDK to a production standard - Kubernetes administration experience - GitOps delivery with Argo CD or an equivalent tool - Ownership of CI/CD pipelines - Strong preference for automation over manual intervention

Nice to have

- Cloud data warehouse platform administration - Database replication, particularly SQL Server - Managed message infrastructure such as RabbitMQ or Amazon MQ - Prior experience in healthcare or another regulated, audited environment
