About this role

Role overview

A field-oriented engineering role focused on outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure, with a heavy emphasis on joint-use and pole-attachment work. The engineer partners with telecom providers, electric utilities, municipalities, field crews, and permitting specialists to plan, design, and deliver compliant aerial and underground fiber builds. Day-to-day work combines technical design, utility liaison, and project coordination across multiple concurrent work orders.

Responsibilities

- Design and support aerial and underground OSP fiber builds, with joint-use and pole-attachment engineering as the primary focus. - Prepare, review, and track joint-use and pole-attachment applications from initial submission through approval, construction, and closeout. - Analyze field data, pole records, photos, and measurements; perform make-ready engineering to identify required pole modifications, transfers, replacements, guying, or anchoring. - Conduct or review pole loading analysis using O-Calc Pro or comparable tools, flagging structural or clearance concerns. - Verify proposed attachments against NESC, GO 95, utility-specific standards, customer specifications, and clearance rules. - Build engineering packages including work prints, construction drawings, pole details, route designs, and bills of materials. - Coordinate with pole owners, electric utilities, telecom carriers, permitting agencies, and field teams, responding to utility comments, rejections, and change requests. - Support permit compliance for right-of-way, encroachment, and traffic-control requirements and confirm constructability of fiber routes.

Requirements

- Prior experience supporting major telecom carriers, fiber providers, electric utilities, or large-scale broadband deployment programs. - Hands-on background with ILEC, CLEC, FTTH, FTTx, or similar fiber expansion projects. - Working knowledge of joint-use application portals and utility-specific processes. - Pole loading analysis experience using O-Calc Pro or equivalent software. - Familiarity with NESC, GO 95, or state and utility joint-use standards relevant to assigned markets. - Comfort managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-sensitive setting. - Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Construction Management, GIS, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience accepted.

Nice to have

- Experience supporting high-volume fiber deployment programs spanning multiple utilities and jurisdictions. - Background reviewing deliverables from internal teams, contractors, vendors, or remote design resources for accuracy and compliance.
