About this role
Role overview
A regulated digital bank is hiring a deeply experienced Senior Staff Engineer to act as the technical anchor of its core engineering organization and the architect of record for its transactional backbone. The position centers on designing the integration between the bank's core ledger and its stablecoin issuance engine — a system of record that reconciles fiat reserves, on-chain token supply, and customer balances with bank-grade accuracy. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, this is a hands-on architecture and leadership role with significant regulatory visibility.
Responsibilities
- Architect the bank's core backend, including microservices, transactional persistence schemas, event messaging endpoints, and internal APIs, documented to standards suitable for federal examination. - Design reconciliation architecture guaranteeing absolute consistency between the fiat subledger, reserve accounts, and on-chain token supply, including a secure event messaging layer that synchronizes ledger transactions with custody platform mint and burn actions. - Lead and mentor the core backend engineering team, setting uncompromising standards for code review, testing, observability, and deployment appropriate for a regulated bank. - Integrate automated sanctions screening connectors with auditable screening workflows and case escalation hooks in the transaction path. - Partner with SRE on multi-region availability, failover targets, and real-time ledger alerting, and collaborate with security on IAM, key management, and threat modeling for mint/burn pipelines. - Support user acceptance testing, feature freezes, and external control validation ahead of the pre-opening examination.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years hands-on architecting high-integrity transactional systems such as banking cores, payments ledgers, exchanges, or settlement infrastructure. - Deep expertise in distributed systems, including event-driven architecture, exactly-once processing semantics, idempotency, and reconciliation at scale. - Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and multi-region deployment within a regulated or audited environment. - Demonstrated track record designing immutable transaction logs, reconciliation controls, and automated evidence generation for examiners and external auditors. - Proven success elevating the technical output of senior engineers, setting architectural standards, and owning delivery end-to-end. - Ability to produce system architecture documentation that withstands intense regulatory and audit scrutiny.
Nice to have
- Direct experience with stablecoin, digital asset custody, or blockchain settlement systems, including on-chain and off-chain reconciliation. - Familiarity with FFIEC IT examination expectations or SOC 2 audit environments.
Benefits and work setup
- Full-time position based in New York, NY or Miami, FL. - Annual base salary range of $185,000–$200,000 USD. - Eligible for health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, 401(k), paid time off, sick leave, and a discretionary year-end bonus.
