Lead DevOps Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering position responsible for owning the DevOps strategy, technical roadmap, and platform standards across multiple client engagements. The role combines hands-on cloud infrastructure and platform engineering work with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring engineers, advising clients, and representing the practice in pre-sales contexts. Success is measured through platform reliability, security posture, and delivery velocity outcomes rather than task completion.
Responsibilities
- Define and evangelize a "golden path" of reference architectures, reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, pipeline templates, and operational standards adopted across project teams. - Design and operate cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi, including landing zones, account topology, and network design. - Architect and run container platforms such as EKS, AKS, and GKE to support scalable workloads, and own the CI/CD and GitOps strategy using tools like ArgoCD, Flux, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI. - Establish the observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch), define SLIs and SLOs, and own incident response, on-call practice, and post-incident reviews. - Embed security into delivery through secrets management, vulnerability scanning, image signing, and policy-as-code, while supporting compliance initiatives such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA. - Mentor engineers, review infrastructure and pipeline code, interview candidates, and drive continuous improvement using DORA metrics.
Requirements
- Eight or more years in DevOps, SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, with at least two years leading teams or owning the DevOps function. - Hands-on expertise across at least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP, with working knowledge of the third. - Deep Terraform experience and familiarity with configuration management such as Ansible. - Scripting and automation proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go. - Strong grounding in cloud security, IAM, networking, and compliance-driven environments. - Proven mentoring, communication, and client-facing advisory skills, with comfort in agile delivery settings.
Nice to have
- Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, or CKA.
