About this role
Role overview This role leads product design across a growing set of surfaces including a web platform, desktop application, and mobile application. The position calls for someone who can see the whole system while improving the next screen, with judgment on navigation, dense data, and small interaction details that shape daily trust. It is a hands-on mandate: study real workflows, simplify the confusing parts, prototype, and stay with the work until it ships well on each device.
Responsibilities - Improve the paths people use most across platform, desktop, and mobile, from first orientation through repeated daily work - Shape navigation and information architecture so people understand where they are and move between connected areas without losing context - Design hierarchy, scanning, filtering, selection, editing, and responsive behavior for information-dense interfaces - Specify interaction details including feedback, accessibility, keyboard and touch behavior, and transitions that make the product feel dependable - Build a practical design system with engineers so common controls stay consistent while each client respects its platform - Validate through user observation and prototype testing, and partner with engineering through implementation and review
Requirements - History of shipping product design for complex software people use regularly, with evidence of what improved after release - Strong information architecture and interaction design judgment, especially for navigation and dense data views - Ability to design for both pointer and touch interaction, with practical understanding of the differences between web, desktop, and mobile - Comfort with accessibility, responsive behavior, empty and error states, and design QA - Experience working directly with engineers, using existing components thoughtfully, and making precise decisions without a large design organization behind you - Based in the United States or Canada
Nice to have - A table, inbox, editor, or operational workspace that became easier to scan and use because of your work - Navigation improvements across a product with several connected areas or device types - Designed and reviewed shipped work across web, desktop, and mobile - A clear example of simplifying a flow by removing options or steps after watching people struggle with it
Benefits and work setup - Small, distributed team that ships continuously and uses AI tooling where it helps - Reports to the founder, working closely with the product manager and engineers, with direct access to customer context - Room to establish useful design patterns, with the first priority being better shipped product - Compensation combines cash and meaningful equity, aligned early in the process - Interview process includes a founder conversation, a portfolio walkthrough on a complex shipped flow, a paid scoped working session with product and engineering, and a final conversation on mandate and compensation
