Software Engineer (Backend, Cloud Architect)

Role overview Design and operate backend and cloud systems for a SaaS platform used in computational biology and protein research. The work spans services, data storage, APIs, and orchestration for distributed workloads that can scale dynamically and run asynchronously. This is a full-time engineering role with remote locations listed in the United States or Singapore.

Responsibilities - Build backend services and microservices, including the communication paths between them. - Design and manage databases, storage schemas, and data transfer systems. - Create internal and external APIs with a focus on usability and performance. - Operate cloud compute and orchestration systems for highly available, scalable workloads. - Develop reliable communication and workflow systems for distributed processing. - Maintain clear, documented code and contribute to code review and existing codebase improvements.

Requirements - A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field plus at least five years of experience, or a higher degree. - Strong programming experience in Python, Go, or another modern backend language. - Experience building microservice-based cloud systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Familiarity with PostgreSQL or Redis, Kubernetes, streaming systems such as Kafka, and workflow orchestration such as Airflow. - Experience with infrastructure and deployment tools such as Terraform or ArgoCD. - Understanding of B2B SaaS foundations, including user management, federated identity, and security, plus the ability to work independently and communicate clearly.

Nice to have - Experience with enterprise single-tenant or on-premises deployments, biotech or bioinformatics software, or relevant scientific data formats. - Familiarity with GPU or HPC infrastructure, job queues, and tuning autoscaling for cost and startup latency. - Experience deploying ML models, LLMs, or RAG systems, or building vector search and collaboration features.
