AI Scientist (Protein foundation models)

Role overview Develop machine learning methods for protein and other biomolecular research, spanning structure prediction, sequence generation, and function prediction. The work runs from shaping research questions and planning experiments through presenting findings and deploying solutions, with opportunities to collaborate with users and inform product features.

Responsibilities - Design and evaluate deep learning or other algorithmic approaches to biomolecular problems. - Take research projects from initial idea through experiments, communication of results, and deployment. - Coordinate collaborative projects and keep stakeholders informed. - Share findings through presentations, papers, blog posts, or similar formats. - Work with users on project outcomes and contribute to identifying and building product features. - Keep current with relevant machine learning research, models, algorithms, and laboratory methods.

Requirements - PhD and experience applying AI or machine learning to biomolecules. - Independent research ability and a publication record in leading machine learning venues. - Strong communication and collaboration skills, with sound prioritization of broader goals. - Python experience and familiarity with PyTorch, JAX, or a comparable deep learning framework. - Expertise in biomolecular neural networks, particularly protein structure architectures, protein language models, and diffusion models. - Familiarity with bioinformatics methods and tools such as homology search, sequence alignment, structure analysis, phylogenetics, PSSMs, and HMMs; knowledge of protein engineering lab techniques.

Nice to have - Practical antibody or enzyme engineering experience in a high-throughput, end-to-end setting. - Production ML experience, including GPU or cluster operations and API design, or experience with molecular dynamics. - Product or visual design skills; experience with LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation; or experience with grants and industry research partnerships.
