Remote job
Senior Android Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A consumer mobile team focused on digital wellbeing is hiring a senior Android engineer to take a high-traffic screen-time and focus app to the next level. The Android client is early compared with its iOS counterpart and carries the largest global user opportunity, so this person will shape architecture, polish, and release quality from a foundational stage. The position is remote within European timezones (CET ±3h) with periodic in-person team meetups.
Responsibilities - Ship features and interactions end to end across the Android client, owning real surfaces that millions of people open daily. - Close the parity gap with the iOS app, then push Android past it in craft, performance, and capability. - Contribute product ideas, not just implement specs, partnering directly with design and product in a flat structure. - Design and analyse A/B tests, then act on what the metrics say about feature success. - Own Play Store releases, staged rollouts, and policy compliance, including release tooling and CI hygiene. - Improve developer workflows, internal tooling, and how the team uses AI in day-to-day work, and stay close to user feedback.
Requirements - 5+ years building production Android apps with shipped work visible on the Play Store. - Deep Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Gradle, coroutines, and Flow; comfort across the modern Android toolchain. - Demonstrated eye for detail and polish, with a personal standard higher than the average shipped result. - An established, evolving workflow for using AI as part of the engineering process that you actively sharpen. - Background at an early-stage or fast-growing startup where you owned outcomes beyond your title. - Comfort with ambiguity, bias toward resolving it yourself, and a point of view on what makes a feature succeed.
Nice to have - Experience with the system surfaces productivity apps depend on: permissions, overlays, accessibility services, usage-stats APIs, foreground services, background work, and notifications. - Integration with Health Connect, Google Fit, or similar health and wellbeing platforms. - Work beyond the phone app such as Wear OS, widgets, and Glance-style surfaces. - Training or fine-tuning machine learning models. - A/B testing and product analytics experience. - Play Console release management, CI pipelines, and Firebase tooling. - Personal apps in the Play Store built for the love of it. - French language skills.
